Small and medium-sized water pump grease is made from natural fatty acid calcium soap thickened medium viscosity mineral lubricating oil, while synthetic calcium based grease is made from synthetic fatty acid calcium soap thickened medium viscosity mineral lubricating oil.
(1) Because calcium soap and water form hydrates, only in the form of hydrates can calcium soap form highly dispersed fibers in mineral oil. The hydrates of calcium soaps hydrolyze at around 100 ºC, which is why calcium based greases gradually lose their consistency above 100 ºC, which limits the temperature range of use of calcium based greases. Generally, it does not exceed 60 ºC. If this temperature is exceeded, the calcium based grease will become soft or even lose, and thus lubrication cannot be guaranteed.
(2) Calcium based grease has good water resistance and is not prone to emulsification and deterioration through water. It is suitable for lubrication of various mechanical components in wet environments or in contact with water.
(3) Calcium based grease has good shear stability and thixotropy stability. When stirred and still in use, the grease can still remain on the action surface, producing a sealing effect without being thrown out.
(4) Calcium based greases have good pumping properties because of their short fibers and low strength limits. When using the same mineral oil and making the same consistency, calcium based greases are easier to bind than other soap based greases, such as sodium based or aluminum based.
